The Bellarine Railway in conjunction with the City of Greater Geelong are currently implementing improvements to the safety of crossing of the railway line by the Bellarine Rail Trail, near Drysdale.
The works include:
- Widening of the path around Lake Lorne adjacent to Drysdale Railway Station
- Alteration to the path and pedestrian crossing of the path accessed from Station St
- Alteration of the crossing of Bridge St and the railway line by the rail trail.
The changes will improve public safety for users of the rail trail, as the ability for cyclists and pedestrians to ‘cut across’ the rail lines has been removed. There have been numerous incidents in the past few years and it is anticipated that the changes will alleviate any further adverse effects of the road/trail, and trail/rail interface points.
Importantly, the changes give both train crews and rail trail users better visibility prior people attempting to cross the railway line.
