Cruise Express International, a Sydney based travel agency is running a 5-day tour this month across a range of heritage trains and train lines and the Bellarine Railway is one of them.

The rail tour adventure will take guests from Sydney and through Victoria, travelling on 10 spectacular diesel and steam locomotives. They have a wide variety of heritage carriages to choose from – some even privately owned. Along the way the guests will meet volunteers (including some of our wonderful people) and see the trains up close in their rail yards.

The highlight for the 16.5km journey between Drysdale and Queenscliff will be travelling behind a recreation of the ‘Tasman Limited’, using X3 and X20. These two heritage diesel locomotives, were used to haul Tasmania’s last passenger train service – The Tasman Limited. The service that ran between Hobart and Wynyard began in 1954 and was discontinued in July 1978. Tour passengers will board the train at Drysdale and travel to Queenscliff for lunch, with plenty of time to take photos before return trip.

While this tour is booked out Cruise Express have plenty of other tour options on offer. There are international train tours on the Emerald Isle Express and a stunning trip through the Canadian Rockies and The Inside Passage of Alaska. Imagine enjoying such amazing train journeys all over the world. Or stay a little closer to home on their New Zealand Rail and Sail or their Great Southern rail travel – from Adelaide to Brisbane.

The Tasman Limited ready for the Cruise Express charter

For those wanting to travel closer to home, we run our own train adventures on most Sundays throughout the year and Tuesday and Thursdays during the school holidays. Or why not charter your own train like Cruise Express and choose one of our heritage steam or diesel locomotives.

As the oldest branch line in Victoria still in operation, the Bellarine Railway loves taking people back in time to enjoy the heyday of rail. Plus, like our Cruise Express guests, you will enjoy some amazing views, pass by farmland and skirt along the shores of Swan Bay, recognised as a wetland of international importance.
